Where a few of us here on the forum live is in an emergency situation. The main spillway on Oroville Dam -- the tallest dam in the USA -- is damaged. The emergency spillway, never used before in the 48 years the dam has operated, is eroding.
Major confusion and panic occurred when the order went out Sunday, late afternoon: THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
Our local roads have been gridlocked, stores emptied, gas stationed closed when fuel ran out. Our low-lying towns -- Oroville, Marysville, Yuba City, et al. -- are ghost towns.
Keep us in your thoughts, please.

i guess some will think it should be obvious - but this is where misunderstandings arise because we end up wrongly attributing something to jw organization that was never said.. circuit assembly theme: maintain love for jehovah!.
note to speaker: warmly encourage young ones to prove their friendship with jehovah by observing his commandments and defending his standards.

What I miss about going out in service.
by compound complex inwell, very little, to be honest.
the structure and commitment of the ministry provided discipline necessary to my life.
therefore, i did it, as required, and felt some sense of fulfillment at the bible study stage.. i do like talking to people.

I was troubled about never being off duty, that ever-present push towards informal witnessing when not in the field.
During one of the subscription campaigns, I worked graveyard shift, cleaning a supermarket. The laid-back atmosphere seemed conducive toward casual exchanges. Still, I couldn't find a way to do both a presentation and an offer, hitting up a shelf stocker for $2.50, mop in one hand, WT in the other.
Maybe I should have offered AWAKE!, the complete university education, 24 issues a year, some 10 cents per copy.

What have been some of the funniest local needs talks that you have heard?
by DaPriest ini remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.
in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.
no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.

A brother repeated a "rumor" from the platform last night.
by NikL ini seem to remember many talks and articles in the past about repeating rumors.last night before going into the book study the conductor said something to the effect, "i heard a rumor and i don't know if it's true but the rumor is that in the future we will be using only;y videos at the door.".
anyone else heard this "rumor"?.
and whats up with repeating rumors from the platform?

) we understood that the “arriving” mentioned in verse 46 was linked to the time when jesus came to inspect the spiritual condition of the anointed in 1918 and that the appointment of the slave over all the master’s belongings occurred in 1919.

There are two sides to me; it seems inescapable.
The side that comes on automatically, when with Witnesses, is my long-ingrained JW-speak. I was taught at an early age by the anointed themselves, my mom having studied briefly with an anointed sister -- Lillian Groebel -- when I was little. Then came the anointed to our door when I was a teenager. I was attentive and receptive.
As a result, at the drop of a hat, I can go into full "old light" mode and, perhaps, convince a relative newcomer to the faith that this old-school JW has the truth, but an older version of it!
Sometimes, I feel like Janus . . .

Why is this blind allegiance to the anointed ones?
by anointed1 ineven when they know that certain things are not right with the organization the flocks are blindly following their leaders viewing them as the future “kings and priests” (originally a sumerian concept).. greed for a “land of milk and honey” (either in this life or the next) is at the root of their allegiance.
interestingly, greed is something the flocks are warned against: ‘be on your guard against all kinds of greed which is idolatry.’ (luke 12:15; colossians 3:5).

Apart from these well-presented facts (that appeal to the mind), my early years in the faith saw me emotionally involved with many of the so-called anointed remnant. My initial study of the Scriptures and consequent association with the "elect" convinced me that, truly, I was privileged to work in company with Christ's brothers.
Those humble individuals whom I knew were not unbalanced, not crazed. They took a sincere and loving interest in me, both with regard to material and spiritual needs. As they died off, one by one, attaining their reward (as I believed), I felt it my responsibility to carry on their work and tell new JWs about the anointed. I believed in the classes -- Naomi and Ruth, etc. -- and all the OT allusions to the anointed, as once taught by the Society.
While I still maintain fond sentiments towards my departed older friends, I have been disabused of whatever special standing they might have had in God's arrangement. If they truly are in heaven, well, that's wonderful . . .
But as one-time Jehovah's Witnesses and part of the 144,000?

Is it possible to decline preaching in the carts?

since i'm not pioneering any more, i'm reducing my hours wasted at that artifact known as cart or trolley.
